Better late than never for our episode 8 recap. Some great tattoo’s on this episode and some more maturity issues plaguing Kat as she shows up 5 hours late to work! And then blames the alarm clock! Raise your hand if you have ever done that. And oh yeah, she always talks about being a responsible business owner. Yikes! Check out the photos from the finished ink from Episode 8, Kat’s Gnarly Day.

There are 3 mistakes on these tattoos- one on the baby buddah- the top of the foot should be showing, not the bottom.( Try crossing your legs, and see for yourself.)
And on Kat’s grandfather portrait- there are 2 mistakes! The word “familia” is Spanish- he requested the wording to be in Italian, so it should be “famiglia”. Also, he requested the word “hero. In Italian, that’s “eroe’, not “idolo” which is “idol”. Bad work on both their parts! The other tattoos are beautiful. I especially LOVE Cory’s work. He is truly a master at his craft.

Thanks for chiming in RJ. I agree, Cory easily had the best piece on this episode, and thanks for pointing out those errors. Sounds like Kat’s day was even worse!

I did notice the Buddah foot, that is pretty bad….

    RJ-

I have to respectfully disagree with you on the little buddha tattoo and the foot issue. If you sit int he half lotus position you are 100% correct the foot shows the top not the bottom as you put it. However Buddha would have sat in a full lotus position and therefore would be showing the bottoms of his feet. It is also part iconography. The Buddha was believed to have an 8 spoked wheel of sorts on the bottom of his foot to show the 8 Truths. So while technically the bottom of the foot might not show all the way up like it does in many pictures of the Buddha it would show more of the bottom then the top and with the iconography and art of the Buddha it is more about what the artists wanted to represent his divine nature and not how he actually sat in real life. So I think the bottom of the foot is the correct position.

In Fact here is just some silly picture I found using google images that shows the full lotus position and you will notice the bottom of the foot showing.

geez she’s losing it! Every interview I watch with her is truly bizzare. She is so young and fickle. Also, I listened to one interview where she said she gives free tattoos now and then on her letterman interview she said she would charge a couple grand for a large sized portrait. Does she have any clue what she’s even saying any more?

GreatTattoosNow- Thank you for the polite and respectful correction.

When I sit with my legs crossed the bottom of my foot shows.

I guess Kat thinks that Spanish and Italian are the same? Because all those words where in Spanish.

The Buddha tattoo showing the bottom of the foot is correct. If someone is sitting in the lotus position then the bottom of the foot will face up.

With each episode it becomes more obvious that Corey, Kim and Hannah are the better rounded tattoo
artists on the show. I’ve yet to see a tattoo that Corey has done that hasn’t been top quality.

As for the Italian / Spanish mixup, I’m surprised that Kat did that. She is bilingual , so she would know the Spanish language pretty well, but she has never said that she knew Italian, as far as I know. I do think that the client should be prepared and have the correct spellings and translations at the ready, but every artist should ALWAYS check spelling and translations before completing the work. I as a client would INSIST on it before I had any text tattooed on me.

I really liked the tattoo they did of the nautical compass a couple weeks back. Does anyone know where I could find a picture of it?
