L.A. Ink Episode 2.4 - New Beginnings

Another episode of L.A. Ink aired this week, this one focusing in on Pixie and her tattoo removal process. You see, she has akat-ludwig.jpg hideous piece of ink on her arm, something that looks like a goblin girl and her goblin baby, not really sure what it is exactly. At any rate, I was sorta under impressed with the ink on this episode as a whole. Some video of Pixie and her Dr. Tattoff experience are below.

  • Kat’s skater friend Freedom gets a peregrine falcon on his arm to help him symbolize his newfound sobriety. Kat cannot help but talk over him most of the time about her own sobriety, which she claims is “just for now, to focus on my work, ya know?”
  • Kim does a very detailed piece for a woman that wants to highlight her girlie side. The back piece featured a diamond ring, a ballerina dancer, lipstick, and other girlie trinkets. It also is very pink, which Kim loves. As a dude, I have a hard time appreciating this, but I’m certain it is totally what she wanted.
  • Hannah does a suicide prevention logo for a girl that lost her brother to suicide, it is hard to criticize her motives of course, but that life preserver is sorta boring and almost ugly. Of course Hannah makes it about as nice looking as is possible. This one was obviously featured because of the emotional backstory.

  • Corey does what is probably the best piece on the episode of a dragon and tiger on a guys arm. We find out that dude is a white rapper and the editing sure makes him look like a tool after he rips off a quick rhyme. The artwork though turns out great although I am a little surprised this one went color, I was expecting black and gray.
  • Kat does a hairless cat for her hairless cat breeding friend. Throughout the inking process they talk about their love for cats and how everyone probably thinks she is a crazy cat lady for getting her cat tattooed on her leg. And you know what, that is totally what I think. I just don’t get cat people I guess.

More sidestories going on as well. Kat is planning on getting her sister Caroline, who is also her new personal assistant, a hairless cat. She eventually does and has Tom Green deliver it. In addition, Pixie gets the news that her ink removal will take 12 visits and roughly 72 weeks to get completed. Not to mention she calls herself a “pain junkie” and refuses pain killers during the process. Smart move there!

Some fun little sidenotes I noticed in this episodes

  • Kat bails on Pixie for the tattoo removal appointment. She says she is “just not going to go through more pain” even though she commits to being there for her friend.
  • Hannah shows her new back piece for a minute, which is partially done and intended to remove her very first tattoo, that nasty looking spider.
  • Pixie sure is working hard ever since Kat almost “fired” her.
  • Caroline talks exactally like her sister Kat.
  • Hairless cats are creepy, I don’t care what you say

See ya next time!

i was hoping for this episode to be a little more compelling, too…. i know the show is mostly about tattooing, but i hoped they would show more about how tattoo removal really is for a wide range of people and a wide range of tattoos and different ways the process happens. most people who get a tattoo removed still have tattoos they like - Pixie is an example. some clinics use topical numbing, some injectable, and some use a high-tech chiller that blows cold air on the skin. the pain is minimizes and the removal story doesn’t have to be totally focused on the “pain issue”
